Valerie Weilmuenster is a scribe who teaches the sacred art of Medieval Illumination and Calligraphy. Valerie’s specialty is in painting decorated letters and vines from the 9th -16th century as well as gilding gold leaf.
college with a fine arts degree, she was hired as an engrosser at B.C Kassell studio in Chicago. Her job training included designing hand lettered corporate resolutions and testimonials, many which were elaborately decorated with painted initial letters and vines. This led to years of honing her skills at Illumination.
Valerie is an enthusiastic teacher of Illumination. She loves to teach beginning students having developed a step-by-step approach that allows the student to easily grasp the fundamentals. Learning Illumination may seem complicated but once some basic principles are explained, students find it enjoyable and meditative. After the introductory class, students can progress easily and confidently on their own and return for advanced study.
